What is a regular Swap?
A regular Swap is an instant exchange of one token for another, at the best price available right now in the market. You choose the token you want to sell and the token you want to receive, confirm, and the trade settles immediately; there's no waiting and no target price involved. What you see is what you get, right away.
What is a Limit Order?
A Limit Order is a type of swap where you set the price yourself, instead of accepting whatever the market price happens to be at that moment.
You choose a specific price at which you're willing to buy or sell a token.
Instead of executing right away, your order waits.
Once the market reaches the price you set, the order fills automatically and you don't need to be watching or take any further action.
Regular Swap vs. Limit Order: What's the difference?
| Regular Swap | Limit Order |
Price | Current market price | A price you choose yourself |
When it executes | Immediately | Automatically, once the market reaches your chosen price |
Requires you to watch the market? | No, it's already done | No, it fills on its own when the price hits |
Guaranteed to complete? | Yes, instantly | Only if the market reaches your price |
Can you cancel it? | No, already completed | Yes, any time before it fills |
Best for | Trading right now, at today's price | Targeting a specific entry or exit price without monitoring the market |
In short: A regular Swap trades at today's price, immediately. A Limit Order trades at your price, whenever the market gets there.
What happens to your tokens while a Limit Order is open?
Once you place a limit order, the token you're selling is set aside to fund that order — so it won't show as part of your regular spendable balance until the order either fills or is cancelled.
Note: Your funds are always safe. They aren't sent anywhere or at risk while the order is open they're simply held against your order. You can cancel any time and get your original tokens back.
How to view your Open Orders
Tap Swap in the Portfolio section of your wallet.
Select Limit at the top of the screen and click on the activity symbol in the top right corner.
Go to Open Orders.
From here, you'll see every limit order that hasn't filled yet.
Canceling a Limit Order
Changed your mind, or want to swap instantly instead? You can cancel a limit order at any time before it fills:
Go to Open Orders (see steps above).
Select the order you'd like to cancel.
Confirm the cancellation.
Your original tokens are returned to your wallet balance, nothing is lost by cancelling.
Good to know
A limit order isn't guaranteed to fill. If the market never reaches the price you set, your order simply stays open (and cancellable) until you decide otherwise.
Once a limit order fills, it behaves like a completed swap. You'll find it in your wallet's Activity, the same as any regular swap.
